Effect of loading frequency and cycle shape on the parameters of the fatigue crack growth kinetic diagram of VT8-1 titanium alloy

Abstract

The influence of loading frequency, dwell time at the maximum load, and block loading on fatigue crack growth kinetics in VT8-1 titanium alloy room temperature is examined. Diagrams were obtained, showing the dependence of crack growth rate da/dN on the stress intensity factor (ΔK) for a sinusoidal cycle (5–50 Hz), a trapezoidal cycle with dwell time (30–300 s), and block loading (quantity of cycles in a block 240–480). It was shown that in the stable crack growth region, an increase in the time component of the cycle and in the block duration leads to a decrease in the crack growth rate. The level of statistical scatter was determined from repeated tests.
